New York City - Day Three

We managed to pack a ton into day three of our trip. I had high expectations for the Museum of Natural History. It's great for the kids, they said. I would do it, first, they said. It will blow your mind, they said. "They" lied.

Now, don't get me wrong. It.is.INCREDIBLE. But when your children have seen so many things like dinosaurs and what-not come to life in a very real version on the big screen and on the iPad they hold in their very own hands, seeing bone after dinosaur bone can be a little disappointing. It's sad, I know. I want them to love museums and appreciate history. They will. It will come. They will look back and say, "Remember when we went to that museum and they had the bones of the wooly mammoth?" And we will all smile with great fondness and pat ourselves on the back for our excellent parenting. But now? In this moment? They want to play Minecraft and romp around on Umpire Rock in Central Park and stare at the weird bubble man and eat ice cream and eat at Steak and Shake, because WHY would you RISK eating at some unknown place in this strange city? Why?

But we went and just like at The Lion King, we left halfway through for the good of all humanity. As our daughter said, "Oh, great. Another room full of dinosaur bones. Aren't they all basically the same?" Just keepin' it real, folks. High standards with low expectations. My mantra for life.
